Archie's Bar & Pizza - Brooklyn

On our eating spree through four of the five boroughs of New York City, we visited the borough of Brooklyn for pizza at Archie's Bar & Pizza in Bushwick, one of the neighborhoods of Brooklyn. I note that the address on its website discloses the neighborhood (128 Central Avenue, Bushwick, Brooklyn NY 11221).
This map of neighborhoods in Brooklyn is from Wiki. Bushwick is in northern Brooklyn. The most well-known neighborhood of Brooklyn, Coney Island, is in the south.
I'd expressed to our son, Andrew, a desire to try some New York style pizza which is a "large hand-tossed thin crust, often sold in wide slices to go. The crust is thick and crisp only along its edge, yet soft, thin and pliable enough beneath its toppings to be folded in half to eat." We went to one pizzeria in Brooklyn that would normally be open, but found it closed for a special occasion, and came to Archie's as a second choice. One of Andrew's friends joined us.
The front of Archie's which is in a residential area.
Archie's features a vegetarian slice of pizza which changes each day. Each slice is one-quarter of a large pizza. An outside sandwich board proclaimed the "slice of the day" as spinach mushroom. Andrew ordered two slices.

Spinach and mushroom pizza.
His friend ordered a salad which had big chunks of cucumber and green pepper, halved cherry tomatoes, pepperoncinis, and some sort of cheese, perhaps ricotta. The salad had a nice oil and vinegar dressing on it.
We got bread sticks with cheese which we share, with a tomato sauce dip, and they were great.
Best was a 10 inch clam pie which was described as a white pie with clams, garlic, onion, Parmesan, Mozzarella and herbs. It was one of the nicest pizzas I've ever eaten: lots of clam and lots of butter translated into lots of clammy flavor. The ingredients were thick on the crust.
We also shared a "brunch pie" which was described as a white pie with and egg and ricotta base, smoked bacon, soppressata, Parmesan, onion, garlic and herbs. It was pretty good, but not something I would order again. If I were to go back, I would order the clam pie for sure.
I've never really been a big pizza eater, but I'm starting to come around. I am interested in trying the different regional varieties. The clam pizza was very, very good and the rest of our food was nice.

  1. Yeah, the clam pizza was exceptional. I love pizza, and I am more than happy to try it in different regions all over the country.
